at once, I know them not at all and better than myself.
the first installment of a new series entitled "letters to no one"
Somewhere in Europe, on a train from Brussels to Amsterdam, I scrolled through my email outbox and read the words I had written for my friends. My eyes moved over the sentences easily. I was surprised at how well-composed I was finding them to be.
It is common practice for me, on the days when I feel a cannot write very well, that I tend to take to emailing my friends instead. This way, I am still writing but I feel I can take it less seriously. Over the phone, I asked my friend what she thought about me publishing them as part of a series. “You should,” she had told me. “They are your words, after all.”
Upon a month of further reflection and gathering from the archives, I have decided that this is something I want to pursue. As someone who is extremely public about myself but extremely private about those that I love, I have decided to only publish my halves of the conversations and redact any names used throughout the body text and the subject lines.
Since this is a very personal project, I will be keeping it behind a paywall. You can subscribe for $5 USD a month with the option to cancel at any time. Whatever you choose to do next is completely your own choice and I will not hold anything against you either way. It was hard to decide to set up a paywall at all but a starving artist does have to eat somehow…
Without further ado, I present to you, “letters to no one.”
